Pie lady

I love pie! It's a great dessert, it has fruit and sweet, it can be tart and you can have it for breakfast! I would pick pie over almost any other kind of dessert, ice cream is the only thing that can contend. When pie and ice cream go great together and my life is complete. I have very great memories of helping my grandma make pie, or sitting at the table and watching her do it. My mother as well has carried on the tradition.  She once even mailed me an apple pie at college for my birthday one year, found the perfect size box and everything. She also enjoys gifting pies as thank yous, I remember a time when the workers at the mechanic that fixed our car called her the pie lady, because she had brought them a pie for some reason or other. But I remember thinking that is a good label because it is delicious and she is great at it. I love to make pie, and gift people with delicious goodness baked with love. I would not say that my baking is classy and georgeous and display worthy but it is home cooked farm kitchen style and Betty Crocker esque and not all about presentation. I have friends that can create beautiful pastries and things, but I'll leave that up to them. Living on the boat for over a year has seriously slowed my baking down but every once in a while I find the space, reason, energy or determination to make time for it.

Tonight's creation was inspired by some beautiful rhubarb I got from a co-op and the fact that it is Zander's 18 month birthday tomorrow. Hence the Z slashed in the top. It also has strawberries from the local farm stand. We might eat it for breakfast with our bacon or maybe I'll make them all wait until lunch ;)
Thanks
Love Kate
